BENTON’S BASICS: WHAT BLACK EMPLOYEES REALLY WANT
Long story short…
While Juneteenth is a modern-day celebration for Black people, systemic and structural changes are still needed. Many of these needed changes are within the workplace. According to a recent Indeed survey, Black respondents reported the following:
Top three (3) reasons for leaving their current employers:
unfair compensation
lack of career-advancement opportunities
lack of managerial support as the top three reasons for leaving their current employers
Top three (3) diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) initiatives Black respondents would like to see their employers prioritize:
pay transparency and equity
scheduling flexibility to improve work-life balance
increased representation (outside of DEIB-related roles)
Top three (3) DEIB initiatives respondents said their companies implemented:
diverse hiring practices
diversity committees
DEI employee awareness events
