New Year, New Basics

Happy New Year! The newsletter is giving new year, new me energy. Don’t worry! There are only a few small changes for readability. You will still receive the newsletter on Thursdays.

There’s something about the start of a new year that makes possibilities seem endless. So for this month, the theme is boundless.

Spoiler alert: This may be my theme for the entire year!

One of the ways I am becoming boundless is by taking advantage of LinkedIn’s Content Creator feature and sharing a modified version of this newsletter through LinkedIn. You can connect with me on LinkedIn to stay updated. However, first access to my content will always be featured in this newsletter. You will want to stay on this list for all the good stuff.

Send me a message and let me know how you plan to be boundless.

Thanks for joining me in 2023!

Sincerely,

Your favorite CDO

Amber Benton

BENTON’S BASICS: RE-VISITING DEI GOALS

Long story short…

Now is a good time to check those DEI plans, or at least your DEI goals for the year. Ice Cube once said, “check yo' self before you wreck yo' self.” I know you don’t want to wreck yourself, so here are a few tips on what you should review:

  1. Communication: Make sure DEI-related news and topics is woven into regular communication to your organization.

  2. Data: Gather current demographic and retention data of employees in your organization.

  3. Policies: Review current policies and practices to understand what needs to be updated to better align with DEI in your organization.

  4. Metrics: Revisit metrics for DEI goals and objectives. What areas are succeeding and what areas need to be strengthened?

  5. Finances: Take a look at your financial investment in DEI. Do you have enough DEI practitioners doing the work for your organization?

Pro-Tip: If you are the leader, examine your interactions and communication. You will need to model the DEI practices and behaviors that your organization values.
